Kerri Yarsley
Rank 2nd Dan (black belt)
Licenced Instructor Yes

Title Branch Instructor

Profile

Kerri has always had a passion for fitness, good health and the martial arts, beginning with Shaolin Kung Fu in 1971. In the years since, Kerri has studied fencing (university), judo (with her husband Frank (1st Dan)), karate, aikido, long staff and sai weapons. Both Kerri and Frank attained a Vicfit certification in 1986, qualifying them to open and run a gym and fitness centre. Kerri continued as an aerobics instructor during her first two pregnancies.

In November 2002, Kerri’s four children became interested in Taekwondo and joined at the Burleigh branch. After sitting and watching for a couple of months, Kerri decided that it didn’t look too daunting, so she began her training in February 2003. Kerri attained her 1st Dan in Shim Jang Taekwondo 21 months later. Three of Kerri’s children have since attained their 1st Dan level.

In January 2007, Senior Instructor Yvonne Clarke (2nd Dan) and Kerri opened up the Tallebudgera Branch of Shim Jang Taekwondo at the local Indoor Sports Centre. In October of that year, Kerri attained her 2nd Dan level at the annual taekwondo camp.

In October 2008, Tallebudgera branch transferred to the Tugun Village Community Hall to help further the expansion and promotion of the art of Shim Jang Taekwondo
