Steven Turner Rank 5th Dan (black belt) Licenced Instructor Yes Title Master Instructor Profile Master Steve Turner lives in the NSW Hunter Valley and is the W.S.T.A Regional Examiner for the A.C.T & New Zealand Districts. When Steven was young he trained in various forms of karate but never really found any style fulfilling until after he was married and he took his wife Jenny & young son Robbie along to one of Master Les Hicks’s classes. A friend had recommended Master Hick’s Class to him and he thought it would be something that he could do with his young family. That was in the early 1980's and one class was all it took !!! Steve has been training with Master Hicks ever since and now holds the rank of 5th Dan Black Belt in the art of Shim Jang Taekwondo. Steve’s son Robbie is now in his 20s and is a 2nd Dan Black belt Assistant Instructor and although Steve’s wife Jenny is now very busy running their successful Hunter Valley Winery Tour Business she still has an active interest in the regional development of Shim Jang Taekwondo. Steve is responsible for the daily operations of his region and finds his position to be both challenging and fulfilling. Steven is widely recognised throughout his area as an expert instructor and a leader in the art. As well as his achievements in Shim Jang Taekwondo Steve has also been a keen dirt bike rider,and has always had a passion for riding motorcycles on one wheel (bit of a showoff) and in 1989 he set a new Australian long distance wheelstand record of 70 kilometres non stop wheelie,as well as the Endurance record for longest time spent wheelstanding, being 2 hours and 36 minutes. Following this Steve developed a series of precision wheelie tricks and then followed the show circuit performing Shim Jang taekwondo and wheelstand demonstrations. “ FROM THE MASTER TURNERS DESK ” To: All Shim Jang Taekwondo Members and their Families…… On Master Hicks’s behalf it gives me great pleasure and an extreme amount of pride to officially introduce you to our many Senior Instructors, Instructors and Black Belt Members. On the next couple of pages you will be introduced to our very dedicated Instructors and Black Belts, many of whom have been with our organisation for well over 10 years and are still as keen to teach today as they were when they began to teach during the later part of last century. Our Instructors come from all walks of life but all share a common bond, (teaching Shim Jang Taekwondo and enspiring people to succeed) Our Instructors and Black Belts work very hard teaching strong, precise technique and guiding our members along the road to “Black Belt” and beyond thus ensuring that their self defence capabilities are continually upgraded. Of course the World Shim Jang Taekwondo Academy started out small and really did have humble beginnings but like all great things in this world it is impossible to stay small when you are offering something good !! Shim Jang Taekwondo really is a life changing activity. One of the reasons for our outstanding growth and success is the high quality instructors that, after undergoing an intense screening process are coached and positioned as leaders in our centres. Our academy is extremely proud of it’s enviable professional standard and we will continue to set standards that others can only try to follow. All of the Instructors that you see listed are proud and humble men and women from all walks of life who share a love for Shim Jang Taekwondo and the desire to teach it to all who desire to learn. They receive continuous guidance and support from the Academy’s specially appointed Regional Advisors who have themselves accrued a wealth of knowledge & experienced, Indeed our Regional Advisors really stand out as leaders within their regions. Our Regional Advisors are also privileged to receive great support from their Chief Instructors who after many years of professional teaching are well qualified to offer any assistance or guidance that may at times be required. As you can see, we have a massive network of very talented and caring Instructors who are keen to pass on their knowledge and experience to all Members. As the Assistant Master Instructor for the W.S.T.A I must say that I am very proud and honoured to have been selected and appointed to such an important position within the organisation. It is a testament to Master Hicks’s ability, knowledge, personality and dedication to his art that he receives so much support from our Instructors. As an Instructor that has been with Les for almost 20 years I can vouch that I have always received never ending support, guidance and loyalty from Les who I firmly believe ranks alongside some of the best Master Instructors in this country today. As a mature person I have always been very careful not to “judge” Les, rather than show my inexperience by doing this I have continued to support his decisions and I am very confident that he makes all decisions with the art’s best interest at stake. Unfortunately, Honour, Loyalty and Integrity are personal traits that are sometimes lacking in our society but with the talented Instructors that train under our esteemed banner I feel very confident that our members are all receiving the very best instruction and guidance available assisting them to develop or enhance these important qualities. I am confident that the World Shim Jang Taekwondo Academy will continue to lead the way as one of Australia’s most popular Independent Self Defence Schools. I am sure that with perseverance, dedication and some good old fashioned hard work all Instructors and students will achieve their future goals within the art of Shim Jang Taekwondo, I really hope you all continue to train for many years and reap the many benefits that myself and my family have from this amazing way of life.
