Q1...In what year did your Taekwondo journey begin ?

1990


Q2...What prompted you to start ?

Well I was 7 so my parents had a pretty big influence. My Dad and I joined together and trained for about 5 years. When he stopped I did as well but started up again with Shim Jang Taekwondo when I turned 20. I joined Shim Jang because it teaches traditional taekwondo and is non-competitive. I also found the Instructors were very passionate and cared about their students.


Q3...What have been the main highlights during your career as an instructor ?

I find the most satisfying part of being an instructor is when a student gets a technique correct after having some trouble learning it. One of the main highlights of being an instructor was watching my first students achieving their black belt, that said my students always do their best at every grade which makes me really proud.


Q4...Do you have a favourite technique ?

I have lots of favourite techniques so I can't name just one, but a few of my favourite techniques are elbow strike, knife hand strike, side kick and jumping spinning heel kick.
Q5...Do you have any advice for beginner students / new members ?
Don't be afraid to come your first time. Everyone is a little nervous before their first lesson but the class is a very friendly and welcoming environment so come along and have a go.

Leigh Bouchet is an Instructor at the Kincumber class on the NSW Central Coast.

Leigh works closely with Master Steve Turner and Regional Advisor Barry Smith to ensure the technical standard and principles of the art are always maintained.
